Using black and white line drawing on a medium value plain would create a great dramatic contrast. High contrast may prove to be important when illustrating tree limbs since they are medium tone naturally, and therefore hard to read -- this can be seen if you've ever taken a B&amp;W photograph of a group of trees on a cloudy day.
